Are We Harvesting Poverty? | ERoberds MRobinson LMercer | 17 min

April 26, 2017
00:0000:00

[ Click On The Image To Listen]  According to the US Census Bureau, and studies conducted by the U of M The City of Memphis' metro area had a poverty rate of 18.4%, and the City of Memphis had a poverty rate of 26.2%, while those numbers are down from the previous year, they are still well above the national average, and have been so for years despite our 'best' efforts to eradicate it.

With all of the social programs, task forces, public and private initiatives, studies, and other efforts implemented to eliminate poverty.  Are we actually enabling the impoverished to find comfort in their state, and if so, are we effectively harvesting poverty instead of working to eliminate it?

Our Guests:

  • Ellen Roberds, City Strategist, ioby
  • Marcus Robinson, CEO, Memphis Education Fund
  • Luther Mercer, Director of Advocacy, TN Charter School Center
